The FA is looking to appoint a new Artistic Committee. This small, passionate team of three individuals will be responsible for the programming and artistic vision of the theatre, as well as maintaining the high standards of the theatre's output and house teams. (This will not be an admin heavy role. The Committee will work closely with the Operations Manager who will be responsible for administrating the Committee's decisions and directives.)

At the moment, we are looking for TWO members to join the current Artistic Director (Graham Dickson) to make up the initial committee. However, a third member will join the team later in the year, replacing Graham.

ARTISTIC COMMITTEE MEMBER

Location:

Remote work with attendance required at East London meetings and events.

Hours (approx):

3-5 per week / 15-20 per month (flexible)

Contract:

This will not be a salaried role. Pay will be on a freelance basis with a specific self-employed contract to follow.

Pay:

£300 pcm (in addition to pay, Committee members will have free, unlimited access to all shows at the FA.)

We produce original improvised comedy shows, teach over 2,000 students annually, and offer corporate training to top global companies. We are now looking for a Social Media Manager to join our team and help us expand our online presence across all platforms.

About the Role

We are looking for people who:

  • are passionate about improv and growing improv as a comedic artform in the UK - whether you’re a performer, teacher or devoted audience member.
  • can work effectively and harmoniously in a team - collaboration is at the heart of everything we do at the FA.
  • are confident assuming a leadership position in a large community; committee members must be assertive and decisive, as well as empathetic and fair.
  • have a good level of knowledge about the history of improv and a good understanding of the contemporary improv scene, both in the UK (essential) and internationally (desirable).
  • have a good knowledge, understanding and awareness of the wider comedy and/or theatre scene(s) in the UK. Previous experience working in other areas of comedy or theatre would be highly desirable.
  • who have a good sense of humour! Comedic taste is very important in this role.
  • share our company values concerning diversity, inclusion and fairness.


Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities included in the role:

  • Delivering a seasonal program (3 months of shows) once per quarter.
  • Decisions on all casting of FA house teams (including Harold Teams, Narrative Team, Jacuzii, Three, and others (does not include This Doesn't Leave the Room). This would also include decisions on whether shows/teams/players should be cut or recast.
  • Using connections to invite and attract special guests for shows where required.
  • Appointing and managing coaches to any FA house teams where required.
  • Maintaining the quality control of all artistic output of the FA, e.g. working with the Social Media Manager to approve posts that relate to the theatre (e.g. clips from shows)
  • Organizing casting sessions for any FA shows or House teams.
  • Weekly check-in meeting with Committee members to discuss any agenda items: e.g. upcoming castings, quality of shows, sales, programming.
  • Quarterly check-in meeting with FA Directors to provide a report on shows/teams at the theatre across the month.
  • Attendance at a minimum of 2 shows a month (excluding shows they might perform in) (as part of their paid hours).
  • Acting as primary liaison with all performers/teams at the theatre. Listening to and dealing with any theatre related concerns (that are not the purview of the Liaison Officer.)

Responsibilities will not include:

  • Marketing/promotion of shows or creating social media posts.
  • Uploading shows to the website or collecting marketing materials from teams.
  • Booking rehearsal rooms for rehearsals/castings
